We picked up some secondhand cuisinaire rods this week. Although we probably could have done without them, at $5, they were just too much of a steal to pass up. Personally, I've been wondering what the fuss is over these manipulatives anyway.
So, we drove 45 minutes over to Steveston, planning to pick these up and then head over to the dock for a walk.
Wouldn't you know it, as soon as the kids saw them, they didn't want to get out and play any more. They just wanted to go home to start playing with their new toys. BatBoy likes to sort, count, and compare. SpiderGirl likes to use them to add and subtract by stacking smaller ones on top of larger ones. She also randomly pulls out the entire box and does mysterious things with them, which she immediately stops as soon as I notice her...
